The Songs of Hope concert of 2017 represents a slight change of pace, with two new choirs, two ‘old favourites,’ and the return of a popular soprano soloist, which should ensure a very attractive and enjoyable programme.

The choir concert, to be staged on April 9 in St Patrick’s Church, will again feature the Australian Rugby Choir and the local M&D ensemble, along with the Woden Valley Youth Choir and the Uniting Church Choir from Cootamundra.
Delightful coloratura soprano Julie O’Connor from Harden will again perform, and this year has chosen to present a duet with her husband Peter.
Both are members of the prominent district vocal group Counterpoint.
The Australian Rugby Choir needs little introduction to Boorowa audiences, who have long enjoyed its robust, stirring renditions of many popular pieces.
Boorowa’s own M&D Choir, although small in number, punches well above its weight under the baton of conductor Peter Roberts and accompanist Mary Corcoran.
The junior section of the Woden Valley Youth Choir consists of young choristers ranging in age from 7 to 11, and they love to bring the joy of music to their audiences.
Cootamundra Uniting Church Choir, reformed six years ago, comprises people who enjoy singing songs of faith.
Julie O’Connor’s bright, lyric soprano voice has seen her perform with prominent orchestras in three states of Australia and she has only recently completed an engagement with Orchestra Geelong.
Last year’s concert attracted a large overflow audience, and this year efforts have been made to provide extra seating to allow for the expected demand.
The concert commences at 2pm and patrons are reminded that admission is by donation to Can Assist, an organisation which regularly helps many local families who have members undergoing cancer treatment.
As part of the fund raising associated with the Songs of Hope concert, a raffle is being held for which the prize will be two nights for two people at the Murramarang Beachfront Resort at South Durras, plus a $100 fuel card.
Tickets will be on sale in front of Boorowa IGA today and also next Thursday, and at the church prior to the concert on April 9.
