An historic first for Boorowa with an all female executive taking the reins of the Show Society – Louise Baer President, Narelle Nixon Secretary and Dianne Hopkirk Treasurer. We’re about to experience lives and thoughts of inspirational women, look what we have with this trio …. But they’re quick to acknowledge how much they value the work of the not all female committee.
Trust all are rewarded with fantastic weather and great success.

As we approach International Women’s Day it is time to look at some inventions created by amazing women. Take the car heater, invented by Margaret A Wilcox in 1883 who also invented a combined clothes and dish washer.
Monopoly was originally called The Landlords Game and was invented by Elizabeth Magie in 1904 to expose injustices in unchecked capitalism. She was ripped off by Charles Darrow who sold it to the Parker Brothers, who. Later, did pay Elizabeth $500 for her game.
Women were also responsible for safety inventions. In 1887 Anna Connelly invented the fire escape and in 1882 Maria Beasley the life raft, she also invented a barrel making machine.
Residential solar heating was invented in 1947 by Dr Maria Telkes and in 1889 Letitia Geer invented the medical syringe operated with just one hand.
The modern electric refrigerator was invented in 1914 by Florence Parpart. The icecream maker was invented in 1843 by Nancy Johnson and low and behold, her patented design is still used today.
The dishwasher was invented in 1887 by Josephine Cochrane who marketed her machine to hotel owners and opened her own factory without help of a man.
More amazing facts to be revealed next week.

During labour the pain is so great that a woman can almost imagine what a man feels like when he has a cold.

I see they’re going to change the school curriculum in order to improve the literacy and numeracy skills in our children. Grammar and speaking skills are a real concern and a lot of the blame can be placed on technology – we are virtually prisoners of our phones (maybe that is why they’re called ‘cell’ phones). Ban the phone and maybe children might again string a series of words together in a clear logical manner, both verbally and in writing. Won’t happen.

Mike (Mickey) Pence was chosen by Donald Trump to be the Vice- President of USA. Not even Walt Disney could have imagined the one day Mickey and Donald would be running America.

Research by the University of California found that women speak on the average 20000 words daily compared to 7000 words for men – nearly three times more. Later research has found that women have higher levels of FoxP2 protein in their brain saying men have a different ratio.
A fellow reading his morning newspaper had a different reaction to the scientific notion and on reading the headline “FEMALES SPEAK 13000 MORE WORDS A DAY”, could only say “Good grief, is that all?”
Has it come to this:
“Before marriage, a man will lay down his life for you; after marriage he won’t even lay down his newspaper.” (Helen Rowland)
