Congratulations to Shaun Whittaker on taking out the main prize. Flock Ewe judging was due to be held tomorrow, February 17, but unforeseen circumstances have seen this postponed for a week to now be held Friday February 24.

I cannot understand how someone can be elected to a position in parliament on a party’s ticket then decide to resign from that party, go it alone, and still retain their place in parliament. This is the case of Cory Bernardi and his defection from the Liberal Party. It also happened with Glenn Lazarus and Jacqui Lambie who defected from the Palmer Party in the previous parliament.
Surely, if you run for parliament on a party’s ticket and you can’t support that party’s policies, you should not have run in the first place. If for some reason you want to resign, vacate your seat so the party can replace you with someone representative of the wishes of the electorate.
I mean to say, as in Bernardi’s case, the people thought they were voting in a Liberal, and that is what they expect.
In the words of Pauline Hanson, “Please explain.”

Obama, Hilary and Trump are standing at the Throne of Heaven and God says to them, “Before granting you a place at my side, I must ask you what you have learned and believe in.”
God asks Obama first, “What do you believe in?”
Upon thinking, Obama looks God in the eye and says, ”I believe in hard work and staying true to family and friends. I believe in giving. I was lucky, but I always tried to do right by my countrymen.”
God can’t but see the essential goodness in Obama and offers him a seat. He turns to Hilary and says, “What do you believe?”
Hilary says, “I believe passion, discipline, courage and honour are the fundamentals of life. Like Obama I believe in hard work, but win or lose, I’ve always tried to be a true patriot and loyal American.”
God is greatly moved by Hilary’s eloquence and offers her a seat. Finally God turns to Trump and says, “And you Donald, what do you believe?”
Trump replies, “I believe you’re in my seat.”

Winston Churchill once said, “It has been said that democracy is the worst form of Government except all the others that have been tried.”
We operate under a system that lends itself to political grandstanding, often false promises and all in all poor governance. If and when we become a republic would be the time to go to the people and ask them to come up with a system that will work, things have to be better. Consider these words highlighting the current status quo:
“Politics is a jungle – torn between doing the right thing, and staying in office.” (John F Kennedy)
