Young’s splash of colour

Over 450 participants headed along to the event in what blew organisers’ expectations out of the water.

Mothers with prams, children, right through to grandparents got in on the action which saw five colour stations situated around the 5km course. 

Participants were covered head to toe in bright colours.

“It was amazing, I loved it and it was a huge success,” Jemma said.

“The best part of the day was seeing everyone really happy and having a great time.”

Martin Langfield of the PCYC Young – Jemma’s fundraising organisation of choice – was thrilled at the outcome.

“We had our targets much lower than what we ended up reaching – we had such a rush that we thought 500 would be good if we could, but we were happy with the number we had,” Martin said.

“Everyone had a great time, everyone got coloured with colour...including the volunteers – I don’t think anyone got off scot-free.

“Jemma’s very happy and we’re very proud of her for the money she’s raising for the PCYC and the Cherry Festival committee.” 

Martin confirmed the PCYC will host another Colour Run in November of 2017 with a date yet to be confirmed.

“We will run one next November and we’ll have a date organised between now and Christmas,” he said.

“If we got that response every time we run it you’d be over the moon. 

“The smile on the kids faces...it was terrific.”

Organisers wished to thank those who made the day possible, from volunteers, Rotary, Young Fire Brigade, businesses who donated prizes, Mogga’s Party Hire, M&M’s Music and Gus Woods who DJ’d free of charge. 

“Thanks to Wilko who blasted everyone’s eardrums with her commentary,” Martin said.

Jemma also wished to thank the Young Turf Club committee who allowed her to host the event at Toompang Racecourse on the Milvale Road free of charge.
