The weather was perfect, despite the recent rain and slight change to our journey.
The ladies were provided with a wonderful morning tea, of locally homemade cakes and slices along with baskets of fruit, tea and coffee. On their arrival at St Clements Monastery there was Champagne and cheese platters to celebrate their achievement.
Mercy Walk for Women focuses on the awareness of the many issues that women face on a daily basis. This day is for women to come together and interact socially with one another and reach out to each other. It is an opportunity to remind ourselves that singularly we are great but together we are dynamic, each of us are valued and loved, and our role in our families and our communities are vital. We need to be kinder to ourselves and each other.
Whilst on this journey Mercy Walk for Women raised over $9000 for Karinya House refuge for mothers and babies. Thank you so much to those who were incredibly generous in their donations and sponsorship, terrific job well done!
Since the inception of Mercy Walk for Women, we have raised over $40,000 for Karinya House. This has helped them to provide shelter, warmth, food, clothing, support and advocacy for mothers and babies. Homelessness and family violence are critical issues. 50% of the women of Karinya are homeless upon referral. Over 60% of women are moving away from family violence.
Women seek the help and support of Karinya House for many different reasons. Every woman has a story and every story is unique.
Mercy Walk for Women would not happen without the dedicated support from a wonderful group of people “The Yass Rd Family “of Dermot, Marty, Rory and Majella McGrath, Neil and Marg Stuart, Jack and Trish Ryan, Felicity McGrath, Lisa and Kate, Jo Saccasan, Marie-Louise Corkhill, Sam Longley, Leonie Corkhill, Marie Martin and Brendan Maynard, and the wonderful effort from the Karinya House team.
A very special thank you to Mike Ward from the Boorowa Hotel for the use of his bus as our support vehicle and supplying the champagne, Gayle Taylor for so very kindly transporting the Ladies from Galong back to Boorowa with her buses, the Boorowa Council for their continued support in supplying the porta loos and Steve and Megan Shea for allowing us to use their property for our morning tea break.
Thank you to everyone who participated in making this day so wonderful.
