The new Hilltops Council has the chance in these early stages to take a regional approach across the expanded Local Government Area.
At meetings across Young, Boorowa and Harden, Council Administrator Wendy Tuckerman outlined a practical structure for each of the former Council areas in the region.
Each area was encouraged to provide experienced business leadership to help drive decision making in a broader regional context.
Mrs Tuckerman made it clear that in order to maximise economic growth in the Hilltops region, it was
important that local initiatives and actions were identified to foster innovation, diversification and creativity.
“From an economic development perspective, Council realises that the picture is so much bigger than just Boorowa, Harden and Young and that influences outside our region play a key role in our future growth,” Mrs Tuckerman said.
Each of the local business, economic or development groups have the opportunity to recommend delegates to a Regional Economic Development Committee that can articulate local ideas, liaise with Council and act as a conduit for information sharing to ensure that all endeavours undertaken are closely aligned to the aspirations of the individual communities.
Expressions of interest are currently being sought from across the Hilltops for the Regional Economic Development Committee.
Nominations are to be made in writing to the General Manager, Hilltops Council, Locked Bag 5, Young NSW by 12pm noon on Wednesday, October 5.
Nomination forms can be found on Council’s website www.hilltops.nsw.gov.au .
