The Bushfire Danger Period traditionally starts on October 1.
The declaration delay means that fire permits will not be required for the Local Government Areas of HILLTOPS and COOTAMUNDRA - GUNDAGAI until November 1.
“Milder and wetter conditions have resulted in reduced early threat of fire activity across South West Slopes Zone,’’ Zone Manager, Superintendent Andrew Dillon said.
“Widespread rain and the prolonged wet conditions have given RFS members additional time to assist the community in preparing for the start of the Bush Fire Danger Period.
“Landholders should take advantage of the milder conditions and ensure their properties are well prepared for the upcoming fire season.
“If you do wish to burn prior to the commencement of the Bush Fire Danger Period, you must still follow all the normal procedures, such as notifying authorities and neighbours, checking whether you require a Hazard Reduction Certificate and having an adequate water supply,” Superintendent Dillon said.
