Boorowa started the stronger of the two sides. They played a structured style that saw them control the possession and flow of the game.
Brad Rose elected to run the ball down the blind side shaping to hit his flying winger Charlie Coles. At the last second he turned the ball inside to Mark Poplin who burst through a tiny hole. Poplin then off loaded to Coles who scored in the corner.
Former player Brad Smith said, “it was one of the finer pieces of rugby he had seen on Boorowa's home ground.”
Vincent Ryan was forced off the field with a broken wrist, which meant Manager Duncan McGrath was forced to shuffle the side around and play team members out of position.
In addition Batemans Bay began having luck with their free flowing style of rugby. Batemans Bay scored a long range try and at half time the game was evenly poised 15 - 7 in favour of Boorowa.
Coach Corcoran addressed his team at half time saying, “we are playing well, however we need to score more points to win.”
The second half was clearly won by Batemans Bay. They utilised their tail wind well to ensure the game was played deep in Boorowa's territory. Despite this it must be said that Boorowa did not give up until the final whistle was blown.
Honourable mentions for the game go to Brad Rose, who controlled the game well from fly half, astute kicking game; Marty Corcoran who has a tireless work ethic and led by example and Isaac Clark, who showed courageous effort and played majority of game with a broken thumb.
Thanks to Duncan McGrath and Marty Corcoran for coaching the team so well. The future looks bright for Boorowa Rugby with these two master minds at the helm.
