Boorowa, Harden and Young Councils are no more and Hilltops is now how we will be known. If it had to happen, I always maintained this was the only logical scenario facing the three councils.
We have worked together for many decades, and now, as a combined unity, we can grow and promote Hilltops as a great place to work live and play.
Harden may feel aggrieved with this decision, but I heard Stuart Maxwell talking on 2LF last Friday and he summed it up very well when he said words to the effect that Harden should just simply accept the decision and move on.
Together we will stand, of this I'm quite positive, as sure as I felt that divided we would fall.
With Wendy Tuckerman overseeing the process and Anthony McMahon standing in as interim General Manager, I see this as a positive move to establish a fairness in the eyes of Boorowa and Harden that should alleviate the fears held, that this would not be so.
When time comes to elect a new council, we should be looking for people who see the big picture, have vision and encompass this entire region in their decision making.
That is our future.

To be quite honest, I truly thought the Council amalgamations wouldn't be announced until after the July 2 elections.
The early announcement came as a surprise and I agree for once with John Laws when he said it smacks of cynicism, being a political decision aimed at allowing a cooling off period before the elections.
Seven weeks will cool nothing if the Baird Government decisions have angered voters enough, especially in light of decisions made in some marginal seats.
Cynical?
I believe so.

"Great turn up and we have a new committee elected. A huge relief and so comforting to know so many people care so much about the continued success of our Preschool."
This is the message I received from Sarah Rose evening of May 10 in answer to my query as to how the Preschool AGM panned out.
I was so relieved to hear that people turned out in great numbers and put up their hand in support of the Preschool and Long Day Care Facility.
I always appreciate how Boorowa rallies when faced with adversity, again exemplified in this situation.

With the future looking good for the Preschool and Long Day Care Centre, efforts are now being made to make that future even better.
To raise funds to purchase resources for the centre, a trivia night has been organised by that dynamic duo Taryn and Chloe.
The night to look forward to is Saturday May 28 from 7.00pm at the Ex-Services Club.
Cost is only $5.00 per person and for bookings or information contact Taryn on 0428 853 442.

How about this in our politically 'riveting' times.
Sign on the back of a septic tank truck:
"Caution - this truck is full of political promises."
On that note, to conclude, politicians take heed:
"Man does not live by words alone - but sometimes has to eat them." (Adlai Stevenson)
