Southern Cross Austereo have dumped ailing Sydney breakfast radio team Dan Debuf and Maz Compton and confirmed Rove McManus will make his breakfast radio comeback on 2DayFM.

"Sydney needs a big show, with a big name and it doesn't get much bigger than Rove. We've got a superb plan in place to make sure the new show is everything you'd expect from one of Australia's greatest entertainers. But...why would we tell you everything now? We're holding some of the show-and-tell for later. Watch this space, all will be revealed very soon!" SCA's executive director of Metro Operations Guy Dobson said via a statement on Tuesday.

Debuf and Compton, who were on air in Sydney less than a year, will take a break from their weekday breakfast spot on The Hit Network and will host a new national weekend breakfast show at 6-8am on Saturday and Sunday mornings in 2016.

Similar to the deal Hamish Blake and Andy Lee secured with the network, which lured them back to the airwaves in July, McManus will receive an equity component for the duration of his newly signed three year contract.

The comedian will take home $350,000 worth of shares every six months starting from January 2, according to an update lodged with the Australian Securities Exchange on Tuesday.

This $2.1 million will be in addition to his pay packet given the ASX filing report stated the broadcaster "has entered into a talent contract that includes an equity component". However all other details of the triple Logie winner's contract will be kept confidential.

Debuf and Compton's sideways move is the latest in a number of personnel changes at the network which has struggled to maintain listeners in the key breakfast timeslot since Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O defected to KIIS.

Longtime Hit Network chief Craig Bruce has since left the company and was replaced by former Fox FM content director, Melbourne-based Dave Cameron.

"Craig Bruce is no long with SCA and no longer the Head of SCA's Hit Network," a spokeswoman told Fairfax Media last month.

Dancing with the Stars winner Emma Freedman has also replaced all Drive time newsreaders across the network.

The former Weekend Today show weather presenter, who was fired from the Nine network in December, took over from long serving Sydney newsreader Geoff Field on 2DayFM and other newsreaders around the country. Several journalists in SCA's Brisbane and Melbourne newsrooms have since been made redundant.
