Elizabeth, a local girl who, after completing HSC at Boorowa, went to study at Armidale University and being employed by a local accountancy firm in Armidale is now off to St Jude's School, Tanzania for a two year sabbatical.
Coming from a family with a strong community service, Elizabeth has always had a wish to work for a non-profit organisation, however the thoughts were along somewhere in Australia, Canberra, Melbourne, Sydney.
Never realising for one moment this wish would go further than Australia.
Being an Armidale resident, Elizabeth started hearing and reading about Gemma Sisia a local from Armidale, who, with sponsorship by local District Rotary Clubs, started St Jude's, Tanzania in 1998 and now has provided education to over 1900 students in Tanzania.
With knowledge of Rotary clubs in both Armidale and Boorowa supporting St Jude's. Elizabeth sent off her application and was successful.
Now with her departure is imminent she is a little nervous but also very excited about her two-year appointment.
Having survived the numerous vaccinations required and met the challenge of whittling her possessions down to the 20kg luggage limit she is ready to go.
We know that she will be a very valuable addition to Gemma's staff. Elizabeth, best wishes.
We look forward to hearing about your experiences over there.
