Prime Minister Tony Abbott and federal ministers were in Mandurah Wednesday morning to launch the campaign office of Canning Liberal candidate Andrew Hastie.

Mr Abbott said Mr Hastie would meet the high standards required of a member of parliament.
“People expect us to be the quality control in the system and this man has been tested in the toughest possible circumstances and is a candidate of the highest possible values," Mr Abbott said.
Mr Hastie questioned the local credentials of his Labor opponent Matt Keogh.
“He says he was born in the area,” Mr Hastie said.
“But I wasn’t born to rule; while he was moving out of Canning, I was moving in.”
Mr Abbott met locals at Dome café earlier in the day.
“I thought I’d drop by for a coffee and let me tell you the people there were reasonably pleased to see their Prime Minister,” Mr Abbott said.
“When Don was the member, I’d made a number of trips to Mandurah and throughout Canning.
“I’ll certainly be looking forward to that continuing with Andrew Hastie.”
In Mandurah with the Prime Minister were finance minister Mathias Cormann and justice minister Michael Keenan.
The Canning byelection will be held on September 19.
