It was sad to hear of the passing of Alby Schultz, past member for Hume and earlier Burrinjuck. Alby and his wife Gloria were frequent visitors to Boorowa and you could be pretty sure if an organisation sent out an invitation, Alby and/ or Gloria would be there at the function. Alby was a people politician, he cared, and he was a much loved local member. Sympathy goes out to Gloria and family. Gloria has lost a mate, as has Boorowa. Alby, thank you, you'll be missed.

Mentioning Gloria Schultz, I remember her a few years back fighting to have a mammography unit come to Boorowa. A new Breastscreen Van is coming to Boorowa with upgraded digital technology and clearer imaging. Coming August 31 for a week but bookings being taken now on 13 20 50. This is great news for the ladies, but we shouldn't forget Gloria's great support all those years ago.

This Saturday, July 25, Boorowa Rotary Club will hold their monthly market in the Court House Park, getting under way from 8.30am. Great bargains, great food and great for Boorowa. With the emergence of these monthly markets, I got to thinking about other ideas forthcoming from our main street designer, one of which was markets. He also suggested the avenue of Poplars on the Yass entrance to town be replicated on the Cowra entrance which has largely happened. Two other ideas he suggested were enlarging the Recreation Park pond and putting a white picket fence around the Recreation Ground, Can't see the latter two happening, but then, two out of four isn't bad.

A very good turn out to the Boorowa Community Bank grant information meeting held last Thursday, July 16. Obviously some great projects in the pipeline. Grant applications opened that night and close Thursday, August 13. Missed the night, don't panic, we've got a great Community Bank, with great staff offering great service and great help.

Heard Neil Langford mention car registration on 2LF the other morning. His point was the fact that we pay a registration fee but motor vehicle tax is seven or more times larger ie fee say $70 tax $480. I hope the tax goes entirely into roads, and especially our rural contribution is spent rurally. I've advocated for what I would call 'A road apron' program where arterial roads are sealed out to the guide posts. This would mean vehicles travel a bit further from the centre line and maintenance upkeeping the aprons would be reduced, making our local roads safer. A good example of the benefit of this work can be seen on work completed and work currently being undertaken on the Murringo to Young Road. If, as was suggested in the Boorowa News of July 9, we had a Minister for Rural and Regional Areas, such a program may become a reality.

With all the nonsense politicians carry on with when there are far more important matters at hand , maybe we should consider Chester Bowles' words: "Government is too big and important to be left to the politicians."
