This high was very quickly levelled as Coota brought on solid attack.
It was a cold morning and Boorowa's defence had been left in the warm cars they arrived in.
Our tackling let us down but we didn't give up, which was the strong point of the game.
Our attack was good and when we spread the ball wide we looked dangerous. Harry Dymock scored a good try from dummy half and with a conversion he made the score look a little more acceptable.
The game had us come away with many things to focus on this week at training.
With our team back to full strength for the rest of the year, our run into the end of the draw and the Junee Carnival looks optimistic. Good tough game, kids. See you Thursday at training.
Under 9s
The mighty Bushrangers under 9s continued to prepare for next year with another game of mod rules against Cootamundra last Saturday.
The locals were a bit slow out of the blocks and their concentration was found wanting at times but they still managed to come away with a high scoring draw.
Harvey Gay had his best game of the season, absolutely smashing the bulldogs runners in defence and swatting away would be tacklers to cross for four tries.
Jacob Cayfe was also on song with his defence, having the Coota runners looking to avoid him.
Dan Canellis found the best place to run was outside Jacob, with the pair combining for one of the tries of the year. Jacob drew three defenders before flicking the ball to Dan, who had too much pace down the sideline and finished with a somersault to score in the corner.
Josh Dean also saved some tries with great defence and Ella Cross was again good out of dummy half.
Under 10s League Tag catch ups
Round 10
This week the girls played against Tumut in Harden.
We only had eight players, so the girls had to dig deep and play the whole game with no subs.
Emma Craig had a cracker of a game and scored her first try. Ella Cross converted a goal for the team and as usual Imogen Pye scored a few tries (six in total!).
All the girls played a great game of tag.
Round 11
This week the girls played against Harden in Boorowa. Well didn't the girls come to play on Saturday! What a game we had.
Majella McGrath had a fantastic game with a number of runs, making solid ground and she was rewarded with a try for her efforts.
Lily Cassells also had a couple of good runs and made some awesome tags!
Ella Cross made a quick dash from dummy half and scored her team a try.
Imogen Pye also made some awesome tags in defence and she scored two tries for her team as well.
The girls ended up winning 16-8, which was great to see, as the last time they met Harden they beat us. Great improvement girls!
Round 12
This week the girls travelled to Cootamundra.
Instead of playing three 10-minute thirds, it was decided that we’d play two 15-minute halves.
This was an interesting challenge, and the girls seemed to manage it well.
Molly Glover had a great game, making some awesome tags and she was rewarded with her first try of the season.
Leila Cayfe also scored her first try for the season, well done Leila!
Grace Taylor has had a couple of weeks off, but her determination in defence was absolutely outstanding, she chased a girl down and diving for her tag saved a try for her team. Fantastic effort Grace!
I'm so proud of how the girls have improved throughout the season and look forward to the last couple of games left for the year.
Under 11s
The Boorowa/Harden Caltex U11s Junior League went down against the might of the Cootamundra Bulldogs last Saturday 12-0.
The game was a great one to watch with wonderful defence from both teams.
Harrison, Cooper, Beau, Patrick and Josh Flick were all outstanding in defence whilst Sam Shea took the boys forward all game with some barnstorming charges.
The boys had their chances to take the game but with a 10-0 penalty count against them it was assured the local boys got the points.
Under 15s
The Boorowa/Harden under 15s were again under strength last weekend but still put up a valiant effort against premiership favourite Cootamundra, going down 58-12.
Even though they only started with 11 players the Bushhawks were poor in the first half, trailing by an embarrassing 40 points at the break.
Some soul-searching, and pointed advice from the coach, saw the boys rally to have a great second half, going down only 18-12 in the second stanza. Lachlan Innes and Clay Bonnicci had their best games of the year, while Gus Shea managed to barge over for a four pointer.
Tyson Ings made some great charges through the rucks and Brady Halls once again put in a nonstop performance.
Luigi Pollimeni, THAT man, was quite simply the best player on the field.
Tired of playing fullback he promoted himself to the forwards and ripped in in defence and was a constant threat in attack with his blistering charges.
All the boys once again tried their hearts out but lack of numbers has proved an obstacle they can't overcome.
Under 16s league tag
On Saturday afternoon the Light Horse under 16 girls took on second on the ladder, Cootamundra.
This game was a must-win game for the girls to keep any hope of making the finals.
The pressure seemed to have no effect on Beth though as she steamed away to score the opening points after an impressive set.
Shortly after Genevieve scooped up a loose ball and motored 30 metres to score a great four-pointer out wide.
Cootamundra showed their ability scoring from a line break out of their half.
The girls however showed great composure and maturity as two of our youngest combined to score a try on the left sideline thanks to the swift hands of Marlie and a great put down from Mackella.
The half time siren sounded as the kick attempt was flagged away and the lead remained at 12-4.
The second half was no different as Anna quickly found her way over the try line to extend the lead to 16-4 as Jody narrowly missed the goal.
The girls continued their relentless defense and ensured that Coota didn't score again.
The Light Horse girls weren't finished with the score board though as Amanda showed her pace to score a 70-metre try.
Tracey made the conversion to make the fulltime score 22-4.
A great team performance girls.
We are only one win away from making a finals appearance and we have proven that we can beat the top teams.
Two weeks off and we head to Young on August 8.
