Parts of the region recorded up to 10 centimetres of snow, as a powerful surge of sub-Antarctic air swept across southern Australia.
The Braid family hits the slopes of Thedbo every year but this time, the powder came to them.
Sue Braid said her children were surprised to see snow in their own backyard.
"[It] melted by 2pm but the snow man on the front lawn took longer to melt," she said.
"The remains of the snowman, the kids shifted into the shade on Sunday and the lower half of his body is still alive today!
"The frost on Saturday morning froze the snow man solid to help him last longer."
Although fleeting, the rare snowfall wreaked havoc on the roads.
On Taylors Flat Road, branches snapped under the weight of snow, causing road blockaes and clearance issues for vehicles.
"Taylors Flat Road has a major low-hanging branch issue at the best of times for vehicles in particular stock trucks," Mrs Braid said.
"The school bus came only so far down the Taylors Flat Road before turning around and going back to town due to hitting the low hanging branches on Friday morning."
She said navigating Berry's Hill was a major issue and the Reids Flat run down Taylors Flat Road was abandoned due to safety concerns.
Not that the kids were complaining, according to Mrs Braid.
"[The] kids thought a day off school was great. Science lesson at home!" she said.
