Boorowa was like a broken down old nag out of the gates. They lacked enthusiasm, energy and polish for the first quarter of the match. It seemed the harder they tried the worse they got, which quickly saw the players drop their heads. After 25 minutes the score was 21 – 0 and it looked like Braidwood was capable of scoring any number of points.
Boorowa did manage to score one try against the run of play thanks to a nice play of the back of the scrum by Dane Rowley & Mark Poplin. This moment of joy was short lived as Braidwood replied with another try of their own shortly afterwards thanks to lazy defence from Boorowa. The score at half time was 26 – 7.
As the team stood behind the try line dwelling on their sub standard performance, Damien Harton gave the team a rev up speech to remember. He was lound, passionate but most of all inspirational. This proved to be the whip that was needed to change the teams mindset and get them charging towards the finish line.
The second half started with Boorowa scoring early through a superbly put together team try. Joseph banks charged at the opposition line pivoted on one foot, then popped the ball out the back to a trailing Mark Poplin who then had a plethora of holes at which to run through. Mark through a big dummy and scored right under the black dot. Score was 26 – 14 and Boorowa could now sense a monumental come from behind victory.
Boorowa’s next try came from a great show of strength from Murray Armour. Murray was defending in the centre’s, he man handled his direct opponent, proceeded to strip the ball and then run 30 metres to score again under the posts. Score was now 26 – 21.
Boorowa was coming home strong however time was not on their side. There was just 4 minutes left on the clock and Boorowa was stuck deep in their own half. Boorowa patiently worked their way up the field cautious not to give up possession. They then got given a penalty 40 metres out. The team decided to kick for the corner. Marty Corcoran through a perfect line out under extreme pressure, Matt Batt was hoisted up into the air collected the ball and then set for a rolling Maul. The forward pack slowly rolled forward protecting Matt Batt like he was their own child. Matt then saw the white line, dived at the line and scored the match winner. Final score 26 – 28.
The points were as follows: 3 to Nick Ryan, 2 to Damien Harton, 1 to Digger Crawford, 1 to Marty Corcoran and Players Player went to Murray Armour.
