Without the generosity of these local businesses our children would struggle to play the greatest game of all.
Under 10s
Under 10s had a tough game against tumut going down 32-14 but there were some good signs from the harden Boorowa troops playing well in patches with two tries going to Logan Mears and one try going to Nathan welsh converted by Hamish Minehan who could have been mistaken for Jonathan Thurston.
Under 11s
The Boorowa/Harden Caltex U11s Junior League team took on the Tumut Blues in Harden last Saturday with a semi-final spot up for grabs for the winner.
Two evenly matched teams gave way for a very entertaining game of football.
Finally our local boys started a game strong to post the first try through barnstorming Harrison Hadley who ran 35 metres busting tackle after tackle to score the first of his three-try haul.
The strong start soon faded as Tumut scored not long after to give them some needed confidence and it wasn't long before they scored two more quick tries.
Although our defence wasn't the best our attack was something to behold, great metres gained from Sam Shea and Billy Ward put us in a position to use our new set play practiced over and over at training and much to the coaches surprise it was flawless putting Harrison over for his second. 14-12 at the break and the belief they could pull it off, the boys got stuck in in the second half with strong tackling from Cooper Cross, Harrison and Will Fahey. Cooper and Sam took us forward with strong metres gained through the middle, Billy tearing them up on the edge and Will Fahey doing everything possible to try to get us home but it was all in vein with the boys gallant in defeat going down 26-24 in a nail biting last five minutes. Disappointed but far from disgraced the boys did themselves and their towns proud, the tries scored by Boorowa/Harden were well set up by our go forward and great passing from Cooper, Beau Abnet and Patrick Davis but the tries leaked by some less than impressive defence let us down. If we can put both our attack and defence together for the whole game we can beat any team, I bet many NRL coaches are wishing they could do the same. Tries: Harrison Hadley x 3, Billy Ward Goals: Cooper Cross, Harrison Hadley, Angus Piper, Patrick Davis
Under 16s League Tag
Last Saturday morning the Light Horse under 16s donned the pink jerseys and pink socks to take on Tumut for our annual charity pink day. This game was shaping up to be a close encounter with both teams on even points on the competition ladder and that's exactly how the game started. Barely able to see the opposition through the fog the girls new that they had to be on their toes. Great kicking from both teams saw the ball going from end to end but the defense was strong and no points were conceded. A try to Tumut late in the first half was the only damage done in the first 20. A quick huddle and warming of the hands the girls knew what had to be done. This showed and hagic hands Soph crossed for a very excited four pointer. A small lapse in defense straight off the kick off saw the girls' great work previously bounce back in Tumut's favour who crossed out wide for their second try. Their third and fourth also came in this manner and in quick time. It didn't take long for the Noakes girls to combine and put another 10 points on the board, Tracey and Amanda scoring a try each and Tracey converting the goal. With only four minutes to play and four points behind it was a real nail biter. The Light Horse girls had a wet sail and were dominating field position. Unable to score before the siren the score remained at 14-18. But a great show of skill and determination in the second half. I'm sure if we can play a whole game like we play our second halves. We are a match for any team in the competition. Enjoy your weekend off and we will see you in Boorowa at the end of the holidays. Once again thanks to our major sponser the Courthouse Hotel and everyone who helps out.
