The big four teams in Boorowa darts faced off last Thursday in the penultimate round of this season and after the dust had settled at around 10pm the makeup of the top two teams to face off for the A-Grade crown was still as foggy as the cold winter night outside. What did transpire was two absolutely cracking matches that went right down to the wire.

In the first game, the Greenies held on to a slither of hope, that if results went their way, they may still squeeze into the top two. They pushed the Ram Wizbangs all the way to go down by 4-3 with some great darts played. The Greenies have lacked finishing power this season and could have won the match but in the end the Wizbangs just had a little too much class. Josh Carmody was in great form for the Bangers nailing his first 180 of the season and pegging out off 72. Richard Hall and Lester Murphy both threw three tons for the Greenies but it was definitely Josh's night.
Meanwhile across town Ricky Bennett was making waves for the Wizards as they looked to stay alive as well. Rick hit the second 180 of the evening as he nailed five tons and pegged out on 92. Clearly the tough tournament in Young two weeks ago was worth it for Rick. Phil Johnston carried the flag for the Rec Gold as they scrapped to a 4-3 win and now draw level with the Wizards on points. Wizards player Matt Batt continues his meteoric rise through the ranks and continues to impress for the Wizards. No doubt as salary negotiations for players starts shortly, Matt will be on several teams shopping lists.
In the B-grade, there was a minor upset when the All Sorts kept their hopes alive with a 4-3 win over the Ex-Services 4-3. Darrel and Robyn Armour continue to lead the way for the All Sorts. In the other game there was a major upset when the All Stars knocked over the Mad Rams by 4-3 with Grant Carter in good form for the Stars with a 122. Deb McNeil again impressed for the Mad Rams.
And so we come to the final round of this season's competition. The A-Grade sees just one game this week but what a cracker it is. The Rec Wizards will host the Ram Wizbangs where it's all or nothing for the Wizards and merely a warm up for the finals for the Bangers. If the Wizards win they should go through to the final on for and against. If they lose, the Rec Gold will sneak by after looking all but shot ducks a month ago. The Greenies have the bye and are already in preseason training for next competition whilst the Gold also have the bye and will no doubt be up at the Rec Club cheering on the Ram.
In the B-Grade it's also a tight race. The Mad Rams are already through to the final and have a bye but no doubt after last week's defeat they will be hitting the practice boards pretty hard. The big game is between the Top Pub Leprechauns and the Ex-Services who can both make it. If the Leppers win they go through without question however for the Ex-Services to go through they need to not only win but also to win well and do enough to get through on for and against.
Apart from the local competition, a massive day is in store on July 18 at the Mill Court Tavern in Young when another tournament takes place. Entries can be taken on the day with names in by 9.30am for at 10am start. Clearly this tournament is a help to players to compete with some very handy players but at the same time have a great day. Hopefully we can get a contingent of local players making the trip.
So it's all set up for a gripping final night of the preliminary rounds so if you want to see some top class darts where fairy tales will come true and dreams will be shattered, get down to a venue tonight starting at 7.30pm. It's all happening at the darts.
