Councils face uphill battle to avoid mergers after Independent Pricing and Regulatory Authority sets population targets

The residents of Leichhardt have always been a raucous bunch when it comes to local democracy. On Tuesday night it was standing room only as over 100 people packed into Leichhardt Town Hall for an extraordinary meeting on a motion  byLiberal and Labor councillors asking Leichhardt to have a "Plan B" of a merger with neighbouring councils, Ashfield and Canada Bay.
