A stroke event that saw players simply count their strokes. As good players often do they hit the ball less than the average mug and it was quiet fitting to see Bob Styles win. Bob's handicap often does not help as he play's off 7 so higher handicapped players can sometimes win by just getting close.
In second place was Richard Hall and in third Phil Johnston, with all playing consistent golf of late. With upcoming events such as the Gungewalla cup next month, things appear in line for some exciting golf.
On Sunday the Boorowa golfers went to Bigga to compete in the first round of the small clubs championship. Pleasing in itself was that nine players went to Bigga, all of whom could have competed on the day. The team consisted on Bob Styles, Richard Hall, Robert Dunwoodie, Roger Green and Tim Good. As defending title holders the opposition (being Bigga) came ready to play.
All players in the team found the slow and somewhat two paced sand greens difficult an example being Bob Style who had to give away nine shots to his opponent and although finishing the day with a 2 over 72 lost 6 and 4.
Which means his opponent had won at least six holes with only four left to play so Bob couldn't beat him.
But to show how well he played he still had 41 stableford points. Overall the team lost three matches to two with the winners being Richard Hall and Roger Green.
The team did well in the stableford points cup though with 22 points which came from Bob, Tim Good, Robert Dunwoodie, Danny Cassells and Andrew McGrath.
Next Saturday on the 23rd will be a club trophy, and following the week a two man ambrose event for the Danny Cassells trophy on Saturday, May 30.
On Sunday will be the Monthly Medal/ Mug trophy. So please come along and get involved as it all happens at the Rec Club.
In really pleasing news the Johnston and Webster families welcome the birth of a baby girl for Sharon and Phillip.
Sharon and baby are both doing well, a healthy 4.1kg in weight the baby girl was born on Monday at 4.54pm.
The little girl will be named shortly, and from everyone at the Rec Club we wish her and her parents all the best for the future.
-Yours in golf, Woodie.
