The success of the day must be accredited to the organisation provided by the Australia Day Committee, for this I thank you so much.
The positive feedback, the pleasure reflected in response to the award winners, the actual turn out itself shows the community grasps this event as a special one in our yearly calendar.
We have been so fortunate to host some fantastic Australia Day ambassadors, Gretel Killeen was no exception, being right up there with our best. She was aided by her manager and friend Joey Moore, a dynamic duo if ever there was one. Our dinner with them was superb.
It was sad to see the demise of Apex in Boorowa, a group of dedicated people who provided such a valuable service to our community. Thankyou very much to the Lion's Club of Boorowa who have so capably filled their breech, their contribution to the success of the day is greatly appreciated.
The Committee resolved to purchase 20 new tables for the breakfast, a decision that got us out of a potentially worrying predicament, also providing a wonderful asset for community use. These tables could be purchased thanks to a donation from the Arts and Crafts Co-op, a donation for which we are grateful. Our celebration could not go ahead without support from many contributors with money or in kind help. Thankyou to Boorowa Community Bank, Boorowa IGA, Superb Bakery, Thompson's Rural Supplies, Stuart's Caltex Service Station, Ex-Services Club, of course Council and the Ex-Services Fishing Club, Rotary and Ladies Golf. Where would we be without you?
It was pleasing to receive support from the Boorowa Sports Council, who have undertaken the sponsorship of the Sports Awards, which, to my understanding will be an ongoing arrangement. Thankyou Maureen and Garry for the effort you have made to make this possible. Whilst on sport, well done each and every year to the band of judges who give their time to decide out winners.
As mentioned earlier, 2015 is a significant year and the presence of the cadets and their role in the flag raising ceremony was greatly appreciated, especially by our flag raiser extraordinaire, Mike Coombes.
School Captains Michael Hinds and Alex Blomfield did a great job as our MC's for the day and Junior Ambassador Tom Merriman again stole the show. The unique aspect of our celebration is always admired by our visitors.
We host a good celebration of Australia Day, a day looked forward to by our community. I have thanked the community as a whole but it would be remiss of me not to acknowledge the valued contribution made by Judy as treasurer and especially secretary Janene. You do so much and it was little wonder you are Boorowa's Apex Citizen of the Year- congratulations.
We do have a great day and the standard must be maintained or improved on but I have so much pride and confidence in this. Our Australia Day Committee team and I can only look forward to celebration of Australia Day 2016 with similar confidence. Thankyou one and all- well done.
