Running from May 3 to May 7 at the Tamworth Regional Entertainment and Conference Centre (TRECC), the conference began with the Ecumenical Service on Sunday afternoon
President Tanya Cameron welcomed members, spouses and friends before Aunty Yvonne Kent from the Gomeroi People performed the Welcome to Country, followed by the National Anthem, CWA Anthem and Motto recited.
Councilor Russell Webb, Vice Mayor from Tamworth Regional Council spoke on the many things instigated by CWA from it's time of inception.
The Honourable David Hurley, NSW Governor officially opened the Conference. Accompanied by his wife they have agreed to the current joint position as NSW CWA Patrons
Guest Speakers for the Conference in order were; Professor Mary O'Kane Chief Scientist and Engineer who spoke about CSG management, Edwina Beveridge from Blantyre Farm Young/Harden area, Karen Willis OAM Against Domestic Violence and Natalie Isaacs, founder and Co-CEO of 1 Million Women sold her business and started 1millionwomen.com.au to recruit one million women to cut collective one million tonnes of greenhouse gas pollution.
Highlight and aims of the conference included the sale of Potts Point and purchase of new HQ in Mascot. Deals with hotels in Sydney with discounted rates for CWA members was also discussed and more information will follow after August.
Donations were given to Ebola outbreak, drought assistance, foreign aid, education awards and Nepal appeal and to smaller community needs. A cheque for $36,600 was presented to Francesca from Crohns Disease Research.
SWG was very pleased with the Beetroot Display which the group endorsed as Primary Product for 2014. It was erected by Cowra Evening Branch members, Judy Houghton and Leona Steen a well done job indeed and received very positive comments. Other interesting displays included handicraft, cultural, international and Land Cookery.
The Royal Sydney Show 2014 earned $124,090.40. To the Committee and helpers at the tearooms and members who supplied 49,152 scones, 1000 jars jams and pickles and 120 fruit cakes for the catering, a big "thankyou."
The Gala Dinner on Thursday night was greatly appreciated and enjoyed by all who attended it.
A reminder to watch Compass on ABC TV, Sunday, May 31 at 6:30pm which will feature "Whatever Happened to" featuring CWA.
