We were playing for Margaret Blomfield's and Suzanne Manning's Ambrose trophy and there were eight players.
We welcomed Pat Croker who has been absent on the sick list and she successfully eased her way back by completing nine holes.
An active thunderstorm struck the course on the last couple of holes and the first inkling we had of the lighting strikes behind us was the lasting memory of Wendy Tuckerman gesticulating, jumping up and down and bellowing for us all to disbandon the golf and hurry inside!
Margaret and Suzanne were the winners of the day and they passed their trophy to the runners up Francis Brewer and Marie Martin. Next week's competition is the Greig and Tyro Cup played over 18 holes and there will be a club trophy, on cards are Pat Croker and Del Greig.
A delicious afternoon tea was then held to celebrate Pat Croker's 80th birthday and she was presented with a bunch of flowers and a cake which she duly cut and then everyone tucked in to the feast while the rain poured down.
Ada Cummings read out Pat's achievements over the years and an apt poem on reaching the 80th year milestone.
President Marie also congratulated Jill Adam's for 70 years of actively playing golf which is an awesome achievement.
