Now as the Anzac centenary approaches, she's hoping to unearth details about the silk handkerchief sent from Laventie.
The handkerchief bears the Belgian, Russian, British and Italian flags, with a bow in the colours of the French flag tying them together. It is embroidered with the words 'Remembrance from Laventie'
"I took it to the Australian War Memorial a few weeks ago and they believe it was sent back to the family of someone who died close to Fromelle, which was right in the line of fire," she said.
The handkerchief will be donated to the Australian War Memorial.
