We played our first games against Temora at Temora on Saturday, the unexpected warm weather quite a shock to the system!
Special mention to the very cute Under 6 players who made their Rugby League debut, we hope you enjoyed your fist game, we sure enjoyed watching you.
This weekend we play at home, so all hands will be needed on deck to ensure a fantastic day of Junior League. We welcome everyone to come up and enjoy a hot pie and cold drink from our canteen whilst taking in some great local footy talent.
Everyone is invited back to the Courthouse, our major Sponsor afterwards to talk tactics, enjoy a well-deserved drink and support our club
Under 9s
The mighty Boorowa under 9s began their season with a strong win over temora last Saturday. The team welcomed rookie players, 'no frills' Ned Flick and 'straight through' Stephanie Piper and both had strong debuts.
Josh Dean and Ella Cross were dangerous at dummy half and first receiver while Jack McMahon had his dancing shoes on and was hard to stop. While the Melbourne Storm may have the 'big three', Boorowa have the 'awesome foursome', with Dan Canellis, Harvey Gay and Jacob and Lucas Cayfe simply outstanding in attack and sometimes brutal in defence. Lily Cassells enjoyed being part of the victory and will only get better as the season continues. It was an outstanding effort from all and they will be looking to continue this outstanding brand of football in front of their home fans this Saturday.
Under 10s
The under 10s boys faced Temora in a close match for their first game last Saturday.
It was a great start to the season despite going down 26 to 22. Logan Mears scored three tries for Harden- Boorowa, with Ned Hufton and Beau Ferry each crossing the line once.
Aiden Hill made the only successful conversion on the day. Jesse Glover, Hamish Minehan and Spencer Allen were strong tacklers for the team with big runs from Fergus Mullen, Rory McGrath, Callum Stewart and Hugh Squire-Wilson. Special mention to Hayden McGuigan on a great first game.
Under 11's
The Boorowa/Harden Caltex U11’s Jnr. League team had their first game of the season on Saturday in Temora. Down on troops due to the first game being in the middle of the school holidays and with the temperature in the high 20’s the boys had their work cut out for them.
It was very pleasing to see some new faces in the team with Riley Arabin making a comeback to league and Josh Flick having his first season, the two boys handled themselves very impressively and will be very handy additions to the team.
Although we ended up on the wrong side of the scoreboard the whole 13 put in their all, but goal line defence was our down fall!!
Luke dean and Sam Shea led the way up front, Beau Abnet, Patrick Davis, Cooper Cross and Will Fahey were great in defence and attack.
The boys are looking to turn the result around next week when they face Coota in Boorowa, so if you enjoy watching quality junior football get on up to the Boorowa showground next Saturday for a full day of footy action.
A big thankyou to our U/11’s sponsors Courthouse hotel, Caltex Boorowa and Landmark
Tries: Beau Abnet, Will Fahey & Tully Potts Goals: Cooper Cross, Angus Piper
Under 13’s league tag
A new look side came together on Saturday to take on the Temora Dragons on their home turf. The girls played 2 games. The first we came up against a well drilled opposition side going down 30 – 10, with Temora’s attack proving too strong. Our try scorers were Erin and Amanda, with Amanda converting her try.
These girls were backed up by some strong runs by Marlie, Amelia, Clare F, Maddie, and Angel. Our defence worked hard all day with some great tagging by Molly, Riley, Marnie and Clare H. Our second game was a much closer affair with the girls taking the victory 24-20. Power house running by Mackellar earned her three tries for the game and Amanda scoring another two tries for the day and again converting her goal. Katie-Rose had some good runs and was unlucky not to score in the corner. Newcomer Tykieta played well all day. In a tight finish there was some terrific tagging done by Tess, Ellie and Emma. With more training runs and game time this team should gel together nicely. Well played girls
Under 16's league tag
On Saturday the girls travelled to Temora to start their season against the reigning premiers who have been undefeated in 2 years. Not only that but we had a bare 11 with no substitutes. The girls showed true grit and got themselves into an arm wrestle with Temora. The ball was going from sideline to sideline with some great passing. Whilst unable to cross the line it was their defense that shined only letting the premiers’ score
twice in the first half. As a result they went into half time down 10-0. After a quick rest and a drink at half time the girls returned to the field and continued to show their determination to never give up. This led to several line breaks and some dazzling cover defense. The girls were unlucky not to score in the second half and let only one try in as the siren sounded.
The game finished at 14-0. But in mind that with no reserves and against the reigning premiers to only concede 3 tries I think is an outstanding effort and we will be sure to give them a run for their money when we play them at home. I am very pleased to have been given the opportunity to coach these girls and am looking forward to the season ahead.
