Boorowa saved its best effort in the field until the last round but despite their best efforts still couldn't secure that elusive victory.

On the same pitch that was like an ice skating rink the week before, Boorowa sent the Yass Golf Club in after they had amazingly won a toss.
The pitch appeared much better and the Yass openers, although somewhat slow, built a solid foundation with a half century opening stand. Boorowa struck its first blow with Yass on 54 and then proceeded to rip through the top order to have Yass at 5/84 at the halfway stage.
A fine spell from Cameron Johnston with 4/34 saw Boorowa route the home team for 139 in the 41st over and set up a potential win.
Cameron was well supported by Nick Dwyer with 2/21, Alex Blomfield also with 2/21, Murray Armour 1/24 and Phil Coggins 1/3.
The fielding was very good and at least it will give the side some confidence going into next season that they can knock these sides over for moderate scores.
Through tragedy both on a national level and both at a team level [Boorowa's cricket team] have continued to rally every week and have certainly gained respect in the Yass competition.

In reply, Boorowa began badly being 1/3 after one over following a controversial LBW decision going against Phil Coggins.
Simon Pye also copped a dodgy caught behind call and Boorowa were really looking for the DRS review system. Unfortunately there was worse to come for Boorowa and by the time they had slumped to 5/53 after 23 overs, 139 looked a long way off.
Nick Ryan fought hard in making 26 whilst the tail battle bravely but in the end, it was the costly loss of early wickets that again proved too great to overcome. Boorowa fell for 98 in the 33rd over. Brendan Shean with 12 and Justin Corkery 13 chipped in with useful cameos.
It's been a very tough year for Boorowa cricket. At the start of the season the team went up a grade to return to top flight cricket. In fact in hindsight they may have gone up two grades as the first grade in Yass cricket is a class above that of Young cricket where Boorowa won second grade in 2014. But never once have they backed down and rose to the challenge each week.
Through tragedy both on a National level and both at a team level they have continued to rally every week and have certainly gained respect in the Yass competition.
It is the clubs intention to stay in the Yass competition which may be revamped to accommodate the teams that are struggling in first grade but are a step above second grade.
This is realistically where Boorowa sit. Hopefully with the development of some of the younger players and maybe some new talent, Boorowa will be more competitive against the stronger teams. Given the junior cricket in town is booming this is quiet possible in the future.
And so, as another season draws to a close on the local cricket, the World Cup continues to warm up with a few of the lesser teams creating real headaches for some of the high flyers. Ireland had the last laugh on the West Indies whilst the minnows Afghanistan have created problems for both Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
The Aussies have only played once so far due to a washout and apart from the nets really haven't had much cricket. New Zealand as expected is looking the goods whilst India certainly went up a notch when they disposed of the perennial chokers South Africa.
There's a long way to go in this tournament and no doubt some upsets lie ahead. Stay tuned for more updates in the exciting weeks ahead.
