This event involved selling the rights to number golf balls and then on the nominated day all balls sold were loaded into a helicopter which then went up into the air and hovered over the selected green and, with the aid of a tube, dropped the balls onto the green.
Once all balls had landed, an independent group of three judges went down to the green and with the aid of a measuring tape determined the ball that was closest to the hole.
The owners of the winning ball was the Boorowa Men's Golf Club.
Naturally they were very excited at winning and over the last 12 months have used the money to install a watering system to all the grass greens.
This will ensure that the greens can now routinely watered with a lot less effort and has enhanced the sporting facilities available i town.
It is expected that with the improved quality of the course it will be possible to entice more golfers from surrounding areas and even the ACT to come to Boorowa and have a game, enjoy a meal, stay a while and spend money in the community.
This year the Golf Ball Drop is on again. Sunday, March 22, will see all balls sold once again being loaded into the helicopter and dropped onto the green.
Who will be the lucky ones to walk away with $10, 000 this time?
Will it be you, a group of your workmates or family members that formed a syndicate? Perhaps your supporting group or community committee could invest in a ball?
What could your group do with $10, 000? Go on a trip update equipment, develop a new sporting / community facility or help others - the possibilities are endless.
How do you get involved and have a chance of winning?
Gather up $200 and purchase a ball at the Recreation Club.
Only 300 are available. Balls can be purchased by individuals or a syndicate or a sporting group.
Don't want to spend $200? hen call into the Recreation Club and $50 will get you a one-quarter share in the syndicates they are organising.
For $2 you can purchase a ticket in the golf ball that is being raffled. Everybody can be involved.
Then on Sunday, March 22, come up to the Rec Club for a gala day of fun.
Available throughout the day are helicopter rides, a barbecue, Devonshire tea, a range of stalls and a car show and shine.
Then at 3pm the helicopter loaded with the sold balls will take to the sky and release the balls over the green to determine the winner of the $10, 000. Remember, you must be in it to win it.
