With the commemoration of the centenary of ANZAC the stewards of the Needlework Section, Sina Banks and Robyn Pescud will dedicate a display to the ANZAC centenary - Boorowa Remembers.
Sina would like to request from the community the borrowing of embroidered items from the 1914-1918 period to be displayed for the show.
These items are understandably most precious heirlooms and they will be handled and looked after with the utmost care. Examples of items can be domestic, tray cloths, pillow cases, clothing , soft toys etc.
A most popular embroidered item from overseas was the silk embroidery postcards made by French and Belgium women during the war and were sold to soldiers with messages for home to mums, wives and sweethearts.
It has been estimated that over 10 million cards were produced. It would be great if we can find a few of these cards and put on display.
As part of the Needlework section L class 18 and 21 in this years Show Schedule we are encouraging students in both primary and secondary school to put needle to fabric and come up with an embroidered commemorative message/images for the centenary to a maximum size of A4.
The Boorowa Needlework Group is proud to sponsor this class and hopes for many entries. Prizes will be given. Enquiries contact Sina Banks 63853594.
