The photo is set to be published in a book titled, 'Boorowa Remembers: 1915-2015 Centenary of Service in WWI,' researched and edited by both Ann Wales and Di Elliott. The two authors are also the publishers, The Watermark Press.
Both Ann and Di would like to identify all the Boorowa volunteers pictured. At this stage Ann has three 'definites' and one maybe and both women are hoping the readers of the Boorowa News might recognised a family member, neighbour or friend.
Who are the ones without names?
These twelve men of Boorowa were photographed at the Sydney Cricket Ground in August 1917. They weren't watching or playing but camping because the wharf labourers were on strike, shipping was in chaos and they'd come to help out.
Farmers and rural workers from all over the state decided to head to the city to work on the wharves. The country was at war and The Farmers and Settlers Association believed that strikes at this time would assist the enemy.
If anyone recognises those without names in the caption, the publisher, Simon Blackall of The Watermark Press, would appreciate your in-put. Please phone 63851111, email at books@bigpond.net.au or write to PO Box 141, Boorowa, 2586.
