The Boorowa Remembers Committee, part of the Boorowa RSL Sub Branch, has been busy since 2012 in researching records, publicising the project and organising special activities for Anzac Day 2015.
Centenary Week in Boorowa will begin with an ecumenical choir service in St Patrick's church on April 19, when choirs from around the area will gather to entertain with musical items appropriate for the occasion.
On April 24, on the evening before Anzac Day the Boorowa Remembers Committee will open its art show in the Boorowa Court House. It is hoped that artists from all over the district and even some from interstate will accept the challenge to depict symbols of Australia's Anzac history.
The art exhibition will continue until the following Monday. Winners of the writing competition will be announced at the art show opening.
Anzac Day will begin, as usual, with Dawn Services at Boorowa and Rugby, which are expected to be well attended by many visitors whose relatives enlisted at Boorowa.
The 11am Commemoration Service at the Boorowa War memorial, preceded by the march, is also expected to see the attendance of many visitors and local district residents.
A Community Barbecue in the Ex-Services Club will follow and this will be an opportunity for visitors to renew friendship and make new ones.
The informal occasion will include musical entertainment by local groups and artists, with the performance of popular songs from the Great War, along with more contemporary items.
It is hoped that a charity football match will be one of the activities of the afternoon, recalling the many great contestants conducted over the years involving men who served in the armed forces.
The Boorowa Remembers Committee hopes that as many local people as possible will be involved in some or all of the activities to be conducted on that special day, which will commemorate the local men, and women, who served the nation a century ago.
