Boorowa Mayor Wendy Tuckerman welcomed the Wandering Warriors on their journey through Boorowa and congratulated them on their initiative and commitment. "The Wandering Warriors Inc is a fundraising initiative of the Australian SAS Association. The members are veterans of Australia's military conflicts over the past 50 years. Those members volunteer their time, energy and resources to conduct events that raise funds for wounded, injured or ill veterans and their families. Wandering Warriors have no paid positions and are all volunteers. Such a wonderful group of mainly ex SAS soldiers and what a mighty effort to raise awareness for such a worthy cause" she said.
The Department of Defence and the Department of Veterans' Affairs share the lead in caring for wounded and injured Australian Defence Force personnel, but a gap remains in that care as there is a limit to entitlements, grants, programs and funding. Australia has a number of other stakeholder organisations that attend to the needs of physically wounded and psychologically impacted veterans and their families. These stakeholders add an extra dimension to the care of our wounded and their families; however, they require continued access to funding to do their work. Wandering Warriors Inc is a charity which raises funds to help meet that need.
Mayor Tuckerman signed a scroll which had been signed by every Mayor of the towns visited by the Wandering Warriors since their journey began. The Wandering Warriors completed their Brisbane to Canberra Mega Challenge at the Memorial. Their arrival was followed by the Australian Special Air Service Association Plaque Dedication Ceremony, which paid tribute to the service and sacrifice of all those who have served with the Special Air Services Association.
