Boorowa Remembers is a community drive to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Anzac landing at Gallipoli.
Part of the activities taking place is an open art competition. All artists are invited to exhibit two-dimensional artwork in any medium which depicts the spirit of the Anzac tradition and relates to the general theme of: ANZAC REMEMBERED - LEST WE FORGET.
It is not necessary to depict Gallipoli specifically. Artists may choose to depict local remembrance events, peace or general commemoration. All entries must be the original and unaided work of the artist and if based on photos must have copyright permission from the photographer.
A local committee has been set up to help run the competition comprising of Leonie Bell, John and Jo Snelling, Derrick Mason and Therese Crowe.
"We work really well together" said Ms Crowe.
"Everyone seems to offer a different expertise. We wrote to the Australian War Memorial Art Department and have been speaking with the assistant curator. She has been most supportive and helpful. The Australian War Memorial is happy to assist by supplying a judge for the competition."
Sections for judging are:
Section A: Open - First Prize $1000
Section B: Local (resident of Boorowa Shire) - Prize $500
Section C: Best Under18 years - Prize $250
People's Choice Award Prize $250
"We are lucky to have had such wonderful support from the Bendigo Bank and The Boorowa Court House Arts & Crafts," Ms Crowe said.
"They have enabled us to offer such generous prize money and we are hoping that it will draw artists from all over Australia".
