Essential Energy’s regional manager South Eastern, Phillip Green, said the project is scheduled to start in early August and includes upgrades to the high and low voltage electricity network.
“The project involves the replacement of ageing high voltage copper powerlines with a thicker aluminium cable, which will boost local supply capacity,” Mr Green said.
“We will also upgrade part of the low voltage network by installing aerial bundled cable – insulated aluminium cables twisted together – that is stronger and more resistant than copper wires.”
In addition to the new powerlines, Essential Energy will replace six power poles, 18 cross arms and other network equipment.
Essential Energy crews will be working along Court Street between Dillion and Brial streets over the coming months while they complete the network improvements.
“Once the upgrade is complete, the power network around Boorowa will be more robust enabling Essential Energy to provide a more consistent and reliable electricity supply to the local area,” Mr Green said.
“Essential Energy has scheduled a number of power interruptions to ensure the safety of the public and our crews while they are working on the electricity network.
“All customers affected by the planned interruptions will be notified in advance.”
Weather permitting, Essential Energy expects to complete the upgrade by late October.
