Mike and Young spent two years looking for a hotel in Australia and through a tip off from his brother in Moss Vale, Mike and Young discovered the delights of Boorowa and the magnificent charm of the 'Top Pub' Boorowa.
The Boorowa Hotel provides a great source of employment to locals and is so lucky to have a team that show wonderful desire and commitment to see the hotel thrive. Mike says they are also lucky to have such strong support from the locals and "although we benefit from the growing passing trade, the local patrons remain our strength."
We recognise this local support in the unusual manner of a 'Quid Pro Quo.' Over the last financial year the Boorowa Hotel has returned to local clubs and various groups in excess of $20,000 in financial support and sponsorship. For a hotel like ours, in the current economic climate, this is a significant achievement and contribution.
We do not have poker machines to fund any of these activities and appreciate the support offered to us by the locals.
With Boorowa's strong Irish connection and Mike's Irish background, the hotel was refocused to reflect the Irish heritage of the district.
The Top Pub takes great pride in being the major sponsor for the Irish Woolfest.
Also Mike along with a small group of exceptionally pro-active locals, in March 2014 began the Inaugural 'St Patricks Picnic in the Park', conducted the weekend of St. Patricks Day.
This is a day designed to celebrate Boorowa's Irish heritage and cater for children, with a day that doesn't cost mums and dads big money to entertain their children
It has a complete six-month separation from the Irish Woolfest and offers Boorowa another opportunity to publicise Boorowa's great attributes to the masses.
We pride ourselves on being a family-oriented hotel where our customers know they can relax and enjoy leisure time in a pleasant and safe environment. Our focus is long term and to have lots of fun. One of the highlights this year was the naming on Australia Day of our first 'Pub Patron of the Year!' This was a marvellous opportunity to recognise one of Boorowa's significant local identities with Stan Corcoran collecting this prestigious honour. Stan is a family man, has been a shearer, and is a farmer, a historian, a wonderful communicator and possesses a humour that is extremely infectious.
The Top Pub has some wonderful facilities, darts are really strong and three boards allow for good competition. There is also the pool table and a juke box with an array of tunes to thrill all music lovers.
The Shamrock Cafe serves all day breakfasts and has a comprehensive menu choice including great coffee and take away meals. The caf is also suitable for functions through the evenings and provides a great spot for private meetings, birthdays and other celebrations. The main hotel restaurant apart from the daily specials has a significant menu and also boasts a selection during the evening for finer dining that is not often found in a country hotel. The licenced bars are set out into three very pleasant and cosy areas with nine different draft beers on tap including Guinness. Accommodation is also available with 13 spacious rooms available each catering to either single, double of family style accommodation.
The Boorowa Hotel also has the 21-seat bus referred to as the 'Boorowa Chariot', this is used as a safe driving vehicle for patrons and often takes groups away on daily outings.
We will be celebrating at the Top Pub this Saturday after hosting the local Boorowa Rovers Rugby League home game against Bungendore. Although winning is important, what has set this team apart is the strength of friendships, unique to country teams with many players traveling back three times a week from Canberra for trainings and game day appearances. In my eyes, this mateship is the triumph that makes them winners.
All are welcome to call in on Saturday, celebrate with us and enjoy our special birthday pricing of refreshments and the evening's entertainment with 'DJ i Sounds'.
