FOUR Boorowra CWA members joined other SWG branches when we held our International, Cultural and Agricultural & Environment day on Saturday 21st June at the Anglican Church Hall in Grenfell, catered for by Grenfell Uniting Church Ladies.

Members were given a quiz about Botswana on arrival. President Jenny Thomson, Milvale branch opened the morning with a warm welcome to all. After the National and Botswana Anthems were sung the CWA Motto was recited and the day got underway. The Guest speaker Elizabeth Akhiwu was introduced by International Officer Tammy Cameron, Elizabeth grew up in Francistown Botswana and came to Grenfell with her GP husband and children sixteen months ago they are all happy and love living here. Elizabeth greeted us with a traditional saying before giving a very interesting talk and photos of her home country. Her favourite national dish is papa made from corn meal and water, fruit is also a large part of the Botswana diet. Tourist can travel to Botswana assured of their safety. Many present are familiar with The No1 Ladies Detective Agency series. A short CD was enjoyed by all. gues
Agricultural and Environment Officer, Brenda McDonald, gave a very interesting talk on rice good for food intolerant sufferers. Australian rice uses 50% less water to grow than any other country. Brenda had an array of rice products on display. Including Black rice which was used by Chinese Emperors, commoners were forbidden access to it. Legend says sticky rice was used in the building of the Great Wall of China. Brenda's trivia snippet: her grandfather had a property "Glenelg" now under water due to the MIA scheme
Cultural Officer Meryl Lees, read the equal first winning short stories, ballad and poem from State Conference. Meryl announced the winners of the photo competition. Overall winner was Ruth McKellar from Grenfell Branch.

Vice President Ruth Daintith said grace before a delicious lunch was served after which competition winners were announced.

Tammy Cameron thanked members and guests on behalf of the Officers. Jenny thanked the Vice-Presidents for running the trading table, the Uniting Church ladies and all other helpers before officially closing the day with the Song of Peace. Another successful SWG day.
