The 21-year-old of South Street, Boorowa appeared before Young registrar James McLeod on Thursday afternoon, applying for bail following his arrest earlier that morning.
He has been charged for six counts of supplying a prohibited drug, committed at Young between August 27-30 last year.
Senior Constable Adam Carter opposed Jones’s bail application on the grounds he could contribute to the ongoing supply of drugs.
“He resides with his mother who is a coaccused facing a lot more serious charges,” Senior Constable Carter said.
“We believe the accused is a flight risk due to the seriousness of the charges.”
However Senior Constable Carter did agree that Jones’s criminal history was “somewhat in his favour” with no serious drug matters against his name.
He pushed for extremely descriptive bail conditions and a forfeit of money if the young man was granted bail.
Jones’s solicitor Keith Carmody rejected his client as being a flight risk, instead labelling him an “unwanted player in the episodes”.
Mr Carmody told the court the accused had younger siblings, who his 18-year-old sister was not capable of caring for on her own with their mother also in custody.
“He’s willing to accept reporting conditions,” he said.
Registrar McLeod said Jones had a very strong Crown case against him but agreed he appeared to be an unwanted player.
“It appears that the alleged transactions which have taken place have been arranged over the phone by his mother and the accused has followed her directions,”Mr McLeod said.
“I will grant bail [but] due to the seriousness of the offences I will impose conditions.”
Jones is to report to Boorowa Police Station each Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 8am and 8pm, and is to hand over $500 if he fails to comply with his bail undertaking.
His case has been adjourned to Young Local Court on Tuesday, February 18, where Jones is expected to enter a plea.
