The Goldies travelled to Braidwood on Saturday for a bottom of the table clash.
In what turned out to be a good battle, Boorowa, in the absence of Tom Darmody was able to recruit Ex-Wallaby Joe Roff for the No.10 position.
Who, with his experience and skill helped guide Boorowa to a much needed victory beating the home side 24-21.
It was evident from the kick off that both teams were eager for the win.
The Goldies were first to score off the back of an effective lineout and some strong forward play.
The early points gave the Goldies some confidence which led to some further pressure in both defence and attack.
Boorowa’s early dominance did little to upset Braidwoods desire with the home side striking back with some strong running in the backs managing to convert their efforts into points.
The Goldies led at half time and the instruction from the coach was to be more effective at the breakdown and settle into our own game.
In an exciting second half the lead changed hands twice with Boorowa snatching it back with only ten minutes to go.
Best on ground for Boorowa were Harden recruit Clint Stevens who was awarded three points and players player, local Duncan McGrath got two points and one point was split between Tommy Johnson, John Manchester and Diesel.
The game on Saturday exemplified country rugby, a good honest contest with neither team backing down till the final whistle.
Both sides took great enjoyment out of playing with or against the former Wallaby Champion and shortly after the game Roff was heard saying that he “enjoyed the experience, a solid game like that and a few beers now is what country rugby’s all about.”
The Goldies also had a good following on the side line and we are, once again, grateful for the support.
This week Boorowa takes on Crookwell at home and the boys will be
striving for another win.
Also, a reminder, that on Saturday we welcome back any old boys who are about to come and celebrate their
days for the Goldies and support the current side. See you there!
