The members of the craft shop are proud to have this opportunity to promote the product that supports many farmers of the area, and to enhance Boorowa’s special day of Woolfest.
The socks are competitively priced, according to Boorowa Court House Arts & Crafts.
These socks are manufactured by Humphrey Law from yarn processed from greasy wool derived from Boorowa district woolgrowers.
Members are thrilled to support local woolgrowers in this way and interest in the socks has been very pleasing.
The socks come in many colours, sizes and designs.
Dawn Barton, shop manager, also is very pleased with the quality and designs.
She said that it is good to have as many local products as possible available in Boorowa and having the Health Socks available in the store is helping support the district’s woolgrowers.
“Everything sold in the store must have something to do with Boorowa, be made here or have a major part sourced from here,” she said. “The wool industry is very important to this area.”
She said most of Boorowa Court House Arts & Crafts customers are from outside town. “It is lovely to see our local people dropping in to have a look at the shop and on many occasions have a devonshire tea. We would like to encourage more locals to visit,” Ms Barton said. The Craft Shop makes donations to many local organisations such as Canassist, Burrowa House, Central School, Meals on Wheels, Boorowa Hospital Auxiliary and many other appeals.
With Woolfest being held shortly it is good to have the Health Socks in the shop to uphold the positive attitude to the district’s woolgrowing area. “Woolfest is a great showcase for the town. We have many visitors who become return customers which is very gratifying.”
Boorowa Court House Arts & Crafts also has other woollen items including baby jackets and both cardigans and jumpers for adults hand crafted by members.
The shop is open 10am to 5pm, seven days a week.
John McGrath, CEO of Woolconnect Ltd, said that he was thrilled to know that the Craft Shop has taken on this activity.
For some years now Humphrey Law has sourced the yarn for Health Socks from stocks provided by Woolconnect Limited, a company set up in Boorowa for promoting wool grown in the area.
A Woolconnect spokesperson said: “The motto of Woolconnect is ‘Wool the way you want it’ and the company supplies a high quality yarn which provides consistent qualities for the manufacturers of quality garments.
“Woolconnect created their own ‘supply chain management’, whereby greasy wool is purchased at a premium to market price from local woolgrowers.
“This gives woolgrowers a better return and, because Woolconnect controls the production of the yarn, it is able to supply a high quality yarn at a competitive price which enables the manufacturer to give a consistently high quality product.
“The fact that Humphrey Law receives consistent quality from batch to batch of Boorowa wool enables the Company to maintain processing settings without the cost of resetting the machinery for every new batch.
“Woolerina and Bluey Australia are two other companies relying totally on quality yarn provided by Woolconnect.”
