Well-known Paramedic Heidi Godsman has left Boorowa and headed to Nepal to realise her dream of helping children in underprivileged communities abroad.
Paramedic Intern Jackie Taylor has moved on to a larger station in Goulburn to increase her experience in preparation for her final exams.
These two fine Paramedics gave a dedicated service to the Boorowa community over the past years and we wish them well, said Station Officer Peter Sykes.
Station Officer Peter Sykes is no stranger to our community after coming to Boorowa in 1988 and spending 13 years running local hotels.
Peter become frustrated seeing so many Ambulance officers coming and going with no real personal commitment to the town after long serving Station Officer Les Newling left town, so he proceeded to join up and commence paramedical studies to ensure he could at some time return to Boorowa.
After training in Sydney and working in Bourke for three years, Peter finally returned to Boorowa, and now ten years on Peter is the Station Officer managing a dedicated team of Paramedics who all enjoy living in our town and are committed to delivering and improving health services in our community.
Another member of the Boorowa Ambulance team is local identity Jodie Grocott.
Working in hospitals around the region, including the Boorowa Hospital Jodie has gained extensive experience in many areas of health. Jodie soon identified her real calling was to be a Paramedic and also committed to train and study to become a qualified Paramedic, training in Sydney and Goulburn and then returning to her home town with her family.
Jodie has an instinctive ability to identify a situation for what it is and act decisively making her a key member in the team.
Jodie is now settled to the job and is looking forward to the many challenges ahead.
Former Boorowa Paramedic Brad Lochrin has returned to Boorowa after an 18-months in Wagga Wagga.
With a background in the military and also in fire fighting Brad is no stranger to high pressure situations and his experience and knowledge helps back the Boorowa team in their attempts to offer the utmost service to our community.
Brad is now a fully qualified Paramedic and has settled in Boorowa with his wife who teaches at the Boorowa Central School.
The newest recruit to Boorowa is Lynn Smith a veteran of nine and a half years who has had vast experience in the outback, working in and around Walgett, Cobar and Bourke.
With a number of years spent nearby in the Goulburn area, this young mother of four has succumbed to the calling of country life and has uprooted her family and husband and moved to Boorowa. Lyn brings with her vast experience working in the country and offers a warm friendly approach to the community.
Boorowa Paramedics wish to remind people: Boorowa Station is operational seven days a week from 8:00am – 4:00pm with officer’s on-call outside these times.
Boorowa has two fulltime operational ambulances and during the summer months they have a 4x4 Landcruiser to assist with difficult terrain jobs.
All their vehicles contain highly sophisticated equipment that the officers are all trained to use. Their coverage area is so vast – “Half way to everywhere and a bit more” said one Paramedic.
They are also called to back up and cover other stations around the region.
This can mean they are not readily available in town, which makes it imperative that everyone in an emergency situation dial Zero, Zero, Zero.
This will ensure a rapid response from the nearest available Ambulance. If you or someone are sick or injured and you are in doubt ring Zero, Zero, Zero, the call takers will assist you.
