Great feats at swimming club

17 Feb, 2012 12:25 PM
The first Championship Night at swimming club was met with some great feats for some swimmers.

Teleana O’Brien and Ellie McMahon are among a handful who have swum their first 50m freestyle races ever in recent weeks and are performing fantastically!

Bridget Summerfield and Will Fahey are another two swimmers that are going from strength to strength and improving week in and week out.

Swimmers were out to give the first rounds of Championship swims of 100m freestyle and 100m backstroke their best shot and Declan Summerfield and Brianee Liddle did exactly that.

Events on offer this Friday night include 25m and 100m butterfly, 50m backstroke and, as popular as ever, the diving. Everyone is welcome to come down to the pool to cheer on our swimmers.

TUMUT CARNIVAL

Nine swimmers swam in the beautiful Tumut pool on Sunday and were very proud to win third place in the Club March Past.

Each swimmer set personal best records on the day and many showed admirable sportsmanship when racing against each other.

Ben Davis, Brock Ritchie and Patrick Johnson all raced against each over in four events and were quick to congratulate each other on some excellent swimming. These three boys were joined by Max Gay to compete in the 4x50m medley relay against other boys a lot older than them and they still managed to bring home third place! Max continued to swim strongly throughout the day and is going from strength to strength.

Jai Allison is another young swimmer who is improving every time he dives in the pool with good strong swimming in each stroke. Lleyton Allison drew praise from Ingrid Corcoran with his beautiful breaststroke and is a very focused athlete.

Claire Howlett set personal best in all of her swims and also jumped at the opportunity to swim in a relay with three girls from Young Swimming Club. Olivia Gay swam strongly in 5 events despite being tired and sore after a massive effort in the Swim-a-thon on Saturday night. Tiarna Allison also set personal bests in her events and it’s great to see the girls supporting each other.

A big congratulations to all swimmers involved and good luck to those competing in Temora this weekend. Boorowa is very proud to have you presenting the town at these events!

FAMILY FUN NIGHT

After what started off as a miserable day on Saturday, it fined up perfectly for the Family Fun Night held for the whole community at Boorowa Pool in the evening.

Michelle Fahey did a fantastic job getting everyone into the fun of novelty events including inflatable thong races, cork scrambles and rubber dinghy races. Stuart Gay did a great job emceeing for the night and Kay Neville was wonderful in the toddler pool running rubber ducky races and crocodile crawls with the littlies.

It was great to see members from all parts of the community come down and join in the fun, from local business owners, grandparents, swimmers, parents and others who just came to observe and cheer everyone on.

The swimmers who got pledges of support for the swim-a-thon will be collecting their donations this week and all money is to be returned to the pool either this Friday 6-8pm or Saturday 11am-12noon.

The monster raffle, with 15 massive prizes donated by amazingly generous local businesses and families, will be drawn this Friday night at the pool. Winners will be contacted by phone.

Thank you to the entire Boorowa community for getting behind this event. It just goes to show what one small community can achieve when we all support each other. Once all swim-a-thon sponsorship is collected and the raffle is drawn, final figures will be calculated and reported in next week’s paper.
