Swimming Club has started 2012 with big night, giving all the swimmers the opportunity to race the 800m freestyle for the first and only time this season.
They slogged it out, 16 laps of the pool, with a broad range of swimmers getting in and giving it their best shot. It’s a long way to swim and they all did a fantastic job.
Over the last two weeks, the younger swimmers have taken great advantage of the chances to swim backstroke and butterfly events as well as the weekly freestyle races.
Grace Corkhill and Claire Howlett swam beautifully in their races.
Jai Allison and Sam Corkhill had a great race in the freestyle.
The 12m races are always popular, both for swimmers and spectators and the kids always draw a big cheer from family and friends who are watching.
Rory Corcoran and Sofala Neville jumped at the opportunity to swim against each other just before the new year and they were joined by Harvey Gay, Elle McIntosh and Tamsyn Ritchie last week.
They are all improving every week and will be swimming the longer races before we know it.
This Friday night, every stroke is on offer, from 12m freestyle and 25m butterfly to 100m backstroke and breaststroke events.
All are welcome to come along and cheer on their friends and family in a night of good fun.
