With the 2012 Rugby season quickly approaching the Boorowa Goldies have once again pulled the runners out - some have even purchased new pairs - and taken to the Rec oval for some preseason conditioning.
After three consecutive and successful years as coach, Bruce Nixon has stood down this year and the reins have been handed to Ben Johnson, who now has the job of getting the boys back together and match fit.
“I’m looking forward to this season and I’m excited about the prospects,” he said.
“We had 12 at training on Friday with another five or six that couldn’t make it. If everyone who has shown interest turns up we should be right.”
A bit of fresh blood has already joined the Club this year with an Englishman and an Irishman and a Kiwi coming for their first run and rumour has it that a bit of old blood might be coming back.
With the draw yet to be set, the word is that Braidwood may be joining the Monaro Competition, adding a bit of variety and an extra game or two.
The season is predicted to start the week after Easter with the Goldies scheduling a trial match or two during March.
Excited about the upcoming season, Boorowa Rugby Club committee member Adam Dewar said “It’s encouraging to see blokes showing interest so early in the year. I’m anticipating a good season both on and off the paddock”.
A reminder that training, for the next few weeks, with be held on Fridays at 6:30pm at the Rec oval.
Come one, come all!
