The Boorowa Rugby Union team will defend their title of 2009 premiers this weekend, hoping to replicate last year’s 41-8 grand final victory.
The Goldies will again meet the Bungendore Mudchooks in the final but in reverse to last year, they will play away from home at Bungendore against the hard and well drilled side and fierce competitors.
The Grand Final will be full of emotion, with the Goldies coming off the back of a stunning year in 2009 which also saw the club celebrate 40 years of great rugby.
With the Monaro Rugby premiership trophy under their belt, the Goldies are ready to defend their title with every skill and determination the team can muster.
The Goldies will be salvaging their strengths through regular players as well as a mix of new but experienced union campaigners.
The loss of last year’s Captain Richard Manion to overseas commitment’s will defiantly be a source of concern as he was a viable, momentous player and had manoeuvring skills which outwitted the best of the opposition last year.
But under the captaincy of Ben Patrick this year, the Goldies will no doubt put up a mighty defence and attacking game.
If the backs can play an old school rugby game, players such as Nathan Nash and Corey Randell should be able to score the points while the hard hitting forwards Adam Mokotupu and ‘Ole bus’ Brad Smith should make it happen for the Goldies.
The boys are excited to have the opportunity to claim back to back premierships, a great feat for any sporting team.
All eyes will be watching the Goldies closely, with the community once again behind the team, cheering them on to another victory.
President Tom Corkhill said: “I would love to see a back to back premiership victory. We have a team of good blokes who have trained hard and shown they have the ability and passion to win. As with most good sides, they have faith in each other and that’s a great quality”.
All the best boys, make Boorowa proud.
