A 5 - 0 deficit at half time was cause for a few anxious thoughts for the large crowd at the Boorowa Showground on Saturday.
The Taralga Tigers may sit on the bottom of the table, but they certainly showed Boorowa they can ill afford to take any side in this competition to lightly.
The first half was exciting.
Both sides took chances with the ball in hand but it was the men in Gold who continually got over the advantage line.
Taralga capitalised on a howling cross field wind that slightly favoured them in the first stanza. Frustrated with Boorowa’s defence, their inside back peppered the western touch line with some great kicks that repeatedly forced Boorowa to defend their line.
Shortly before half time Taralga turned this pressure into points when they scored an unconverted try out wide which put Boorowa behind for the first time this season. In recent years, being behind at any stage of a match has not augured well for Boorowa. The composure in the team at half time was tangible though.
Coach Nixon spoke his magic words and then this team of committed young Boorowa men did the rest.
Within minutes the Goldies had posted their first points through a try by Damien Harton beside the posts. Corey Randall’s conversion put Boorowa in front on the score board where they remained for the rest of the match.
Three more tries followed through Sam Lyneham-Carmody, Ben Patrick and Andy Hewitt. Throughout the second half Boorowa had the upper hand running the ball at every chance, creating opportunities as they went.
Best this week for Boorowa were Ben Patrick, Ryan Kouvelis, Sam Lynam-Carmody and Matt McGrath.
The game was played in tremendous spirit. The Tigers, although having only won one game, have lost their other matches by only a few points.
Like days of old, Taralga were in no hurry to go home , staying to enjoy the ladies day festivities at the Ex-servicemen’s Club and helped to support the day by donating a signed players jumper which was auctioned.
The club would like to thank our many supporters who came along this weekend, not only to cheer us on but to support one of the big days in the Clubs calendar, Ladies Day. This year through the communities support we were able to raise $4700 for the Australian Breast Cancer Society.
Many thanks to our Secretary Joanne Rowley, who took carriage of the days festivities and to Taryn for your organisation, despite not being able to attend.
Thanks also to Perc Gorham shedding his locks for this good cause.
Hope the recent cold snap isn’t knocking you around too much.
This week the Club enjoys a bye for the long weekend before the epic trip to Jindabyne the following weekend.
