A chance intercept try was the sole opportunity provided to the Harden Red Devils by Boorowa on Saturday.
Despite playing in the knowledge that the rest of Boorowa were rubbing shoulders and bending elbows at the Picnic Races, the Boorowa XV humbly continued to fly the flag for the community’s sporting endeavours for 2009 with another solid display of running Rugby.
Boorowa scored five tries in the first half from well structured set pieces.
A further four tries in the second half made the final score 51-7.
The result was testament to Boorowa’s game plan to consolidate their opponents for the entire match and most of all return home with another win for the season.
The structure of Harden’s game changed at the commencement of the seconds half. Frustrated by Boorowa’s spirited defence, Harden’s backs took their chances by putting the ball on toe and attempted to force play into Boorowa’s territory.
Boorowa’s outside backs rarely returned kicks, instead opting to take the ball to their opponents with opportunistic counter attacks which saw them drive the ball deep into Harden’s territory providing a number of scoring opportunities.
One of the better tries scored by the Goldies came from scrum on half way.
Chris Grant ran from the base of the scrum to pick up Richard Manion running at pace down the blind side.
Manion was able to break one tackle and draw two defenders before putting Corey Randal into open space.
Randall finished off the move by stepping inside Harden’s fullback untouched to score beneath the posts.
This try was one of three tries for Randall.
The Club was very appreciative to the Harden Rugby Club who agreed to hold the game at an earlier time to facilitate the Boorowa side being able to attend the local Picnic races.
This weekend the club play ANU in Canberra.
