Boorowa Ruby Union Club has commenced its quest for a premiership in the Clubs 40th year in fine style. On Saturday afternoon the Boorowa XV ran out convincing winners over last year’s Minor Premiers the Bungendore Mudchooks.
The large crowd on hand were witness to a feast of entertaining running Rugby and it would appear that, on current form, the club has much to be excited about.
Boorowa dominated the first stanza of the match and went to the break having scored three tries to Bungendore’s one.
The second half proved harder for the Goldies and the hectic pace of the game began to tell on the locals as Bungendore were able to claw their way back into the game.
A number of injuries meant replacements had to quickly find the rhythm of the match and for a short time Boorowa lost their composure and were forced to defend on their line for some time.
But compose themselves they did, and were able to again outscore their opponents in the second half.
Boorowa scored five tries during the match through Sam Burton-Taylor (2), Corey Randall, Mark Owen and the ever present James Daley.
A highlight of the match was Boorowa’s defence which was exemplified by hooker Matt McGrath. After one of the Bungendore wingers had made a clean break from his own 22, McGrath set sail from the opposite corner and, in a scene likened to a wild African lion pouncing on a startled gazelle, brought his prey down only metres from Boorowa’s line saving a certain try.
This week Boorowa travel to Harden and the game time has been confirmed as 1.30pm.
Harden has vastly improved on last year with an increase in player numbers. Last weekend they accounted for Uni Norths away and will prove solid competition for the Goldies. The club would like to thank our many supporters for their support on Saturday and hope we can see you again this weekend in Harden.
Carn’ the Goldies!
