The old cliché of ‘A game of two halves’ was never more apparent then on Saturday when the Goldies took on Jindabyne at home.
The large ladies day crowd were treated to an outstanding display of controlled rugby by the men in Gold who totally dominated the first half however the second stanza was evenly matched.
Boorowa had posted 3 tries within the opening 20 minutes of the match.
The first from set play which saw the ball thrown wide to the hands of Pat Harton who scored near the corner.
The second came from a rolling maul following a line out which showed great control by the Boorowa forwards with Adam Mokotupu driving over the line.
The third, and probably the most spectacular of the match, was scored by George Gregory who kicked deep into Jindabyne’s territory and was on the spot to take an inside ball from Brendan Sheen who had regathered the kick, to score beside the posts.
Many in the crowd thought that the game might become a bit of a procession however Jindabyne showed they were made of sterner stuff and quickly replied with a converted try of their own when Boorowa were found wanting in defence following a serious of pick and drive runs from the Bush Pig forwards.
Boorowa were soon back in Jindabyne’s quarter and applying pressure.
With Boorowa’s lineout working well the ball was soon in the hands of Nathan Nash who crossed for a try beside the posts leaving the half time score at 24-7.
The second half was a different animal. Both sides took their chances in the first 20 minutes of the half only to be stopped by scrambling defence. It took a Jindabyne try from a lineout close to Boorowa’s line to snap the Goldies back into action.
With the score at 24-12 Boorowa flicked a switch and finished the dominant side. Close to full time loose head prop Joe Banks took an inside ball from the back of a lineout to run 30 metres to score. Boorowa won the match 29-12 and remain undefeated for the season.
Best for the Goldies were Nathan Nash, Richard Manion, Ben Patrick and Joe Banks.
Ladies day was a tremendous success with the club once again raising a substantial sum of money towards the Breast Cancer Foundation. Pink jumpers were included in this year’s playing strip for the day which were later auctioned. The Jindabyne Bush pigs also showed their support by obtaining pink socks for the day and attending and supporting the charity night after the game before their four hour bus trip home.
The club would like to thank the Boorowa Community for once again helping to make this year’s ladies day such a success.
Boorowa travel away to Harden this weekend where they take on a winless Red Devils.
