The Harden/Boorowa U13’s are one step closer to a grand final appearance following a high intensity game on Saturday against the Gundagai/Adelong Tigers.
This win now gives the Harden/Boorowa boys a chance to overcome the Temora Dragons in the next semi to take them to the big one against the Junee Diesels.
The boys proved last week at the Junee Carnival that they can beat Temora and this is sure to give them a huge confidence boost.
Gundagai/Adelong got off to an impressive start on Saturday and proved hard to stop, posting two early tries before Jock Ward bustled his way over the line to make the score 10 – 4 ‘Big Buddy’, Gundagai/Adelong’s way at half time.
Obviously Daryn pointed out to the boys at half time that if they wanted to play again next week they would need the ball in their hands and when they didn’t have the ball they would need to move up together and tackle. Well that’s they did !
The boys finally realised that the game could still be theirs but it was to be by no means an easy feat.
For the first fifteen minutes of the second half play see sawed from one end of the field to the other until the ball was spun out wide from a scrum and Mick Hinds found a hole to cross the line to bring the Hawks to within 2 points.
The Hawks could smell a lead and a few minutes later from another scrum Jared Prosser found Mick on the inside who went millimetres from scoring.
A quick play the ball and quick thinking from Jared saw Jared dive over from dummy half to take the lead. Mick’s conversion then took the score to 14 – 10, with a very stressful five minutes remaining.
If Daryn had a ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire’ heart rate monitor on it would have certainly gone higher than those in the hot seat!
With the help of a couple of penalties awarded to Harden/Boorowa the boys edged further up the field and another smooth backline movement saw the ball passed through to a steaming Chris Fredericks who drew and passed to Mick Hinds for him to cross for his second try right on full time.
Final score 18 – 10. The Harden Butchery player’s player and Bazza’s Video Productions Man of the Match went to Mick Hinds.
This week the boys will have the home ground advantage and hopefully a big crowd behind them when they take on the Dragons at McLean Oval. To be there the following week on grand final day the boys will need to be switched on right from the start and play a full 50 minutes in the same way they played the second half.
