After coming off a bye last weekend the Boorowa Rovers were freshened up for a big performance against the Crookwell Green Devils at Memorial Park in Crookwell.
The Rovers started with all guns blazing and with their first possession of the football Jason Corkery kicked a 40-20 to put the rovers in a great attacking position.
After a well executed move Andrew Swaffield gave a terrific cut-out pass to a flying Mick Elkins who beat two defenders and raced over to score.
With the Rovers leading 6-0 and a mountain of possession it was not long before the pressure got too much for Crookwell and young winger Justin Corkery finished off a great backline move to score in the corner.
With 15 minutes still to play in the first half Crookwell had all the possession and pressured the Rovers’ line on countless occasions only to see the Rovers’ defence defy them time and time again.
The second half began the same as the first with the Rovers drawing first blood.
Justin Corkery swooped on a wayward pass from the Crookwell outside backs to race away and score under the posts giving the Rovers a 16-0 lead early in the second half.
It was after that try the Crookwell side seemed to lift immensely and with around 60 percent of possession in the second half, they were camped down on the Rovers try line for the majority of the second half.
A converted try to Crookwell gave the boys a bit of a wake-up call, but two late tries to Shane Cross and Andrew Swaffield had the Rovers ahead 26-6 with only minutes to play.
Another converted try in the dying minutes by Crookwell took the final score to 26-12.
The only injury concerns for the Rovers are centre Mick Elkins and super sub Mal Picker who both have shoulder problems.
Player’s player for the Rovers was jointly won by Andrew Swaffield and Sam Lynam.
