Rovers too classy

08 Jul, 2010 08:26 AM
The Boorowa Rovers are back in the winners circle with a hard fought 36-12 victory over the Harman Seadogs on Saturday afternoon.

As expected after their win last week, the Harman side threw everything at the young Rovers side in the opening half but it was the Rovers who were to score first with a great team try finished by young centre Reece Coble.

With 10 minutes remaining in the first half Harman were able to lock the score up at 6-6 with a terrific try of their own.

It looked as though this would be the score at half-time but Will Elkins had other ideas and right on the bell scored under the posts to give the Rovers a 12-6 lead going into the second half.

The second half started the same as the first half with both sides doing battle for some valuable field position.

Flying winger Justin Corkery took it upon himself to chime into the backline off a scrum deep in the Rovers’ half and beat three defenders and raced 70 metres to score under the posts, taking the lead to 18-6 10 minutes into the second half.

Not to be outdone the other young gun Chris Mason also scored a great individual try under the posts to blow the score out to 24-6.

At this stage it seemed the Rovers were about to run away with the game but a spirited effort by Harman in the next 10 minutes and with a lot of possession, they themselves were able to score a converted try, leaving the Rovers in front by 12 with 15 minutes to play.

Unlike a few other games this year the Rovers weren’t about to let this one get away and with two late tries to Sam Lynam and Mick Elkins the Rovers took the final score to 36-12.

This week the boys put in a 100 per cent effort all game and with the right execution who knows how the score may have ended up.

Chris Turner, Justin and Damien Tarrant had their best games for the year, with Digga relishing his new role at lock forward.

Players Player for the Rovers and three points went to Sam Lynam; two points to Will Elkins and one point to both Justin Tarrant and Mick Elkins.

The Rovers have a bye this weekend and their next match will be a home game to West Belconnen the following weekend.
